Participation in Sport and Active Recreation

A physical activity programme which runs across Suffolk has been ranked as one of the best initiatives of its kind in the country, after helping more than 350 people in the county to be more active in the past year.

Sport England have been working with Great Yarmouth Borough Council to identify the characteristics, plans, policies and initiatives that create the environment in which adult participation in 3 x 30 mins of sport and active recreation per week can grow.

North Norfolk District Council have developed a transportable facility to provide a range of activities to deprived rural communities across North Norfolk.  People can use the mobile gym on a “pay as you go” basis, offering affordable value for money access to physical activity.

The Great East Swim at Alton Water near Ipswich is set to attract over 2500 participants on 19th June.  Last years event had clear health benefits, with the propensity to engage in physical activity after the event particularly high for those participants who indicated that they were relatively inactive prior to this outdoor swimming challenge.
