Community Cohesion

Hertsmere Community Spaces is the result of an inclusive design process that engaged with a range of people.  When Hertsmere Borough Council consulted local young people about their needs in the summer of 2007, they said that they really wanted places to meet and 'hang out'.

Carnival is Luton’s flagship event each year. The coming together of a community for one day helps to define the town. It gives many people a creative outlet and the opportunity to celebrate together in a safe environment.

Grey skies didn’t dampen spirits on 30 May, with around 80,000 people attending the largest one-day event of its kind in Europe.  Luton International Carnival receives its main funding from Luton Borough Council, which has invested in the event since it began, valuing its importance to the community and the key role it plays in community cohesion.
